About Us

William Regentz

Dunneville’s history goes back to the mid-19th century, when Catherine O’Toole Murphy recently widowed, married James Dunne. Catherine was the inheritor of 22,000 acres land between Morgan Hill and Hollister. The ranch and property was inherited by “James” son, James F. Dunne, known by most as Jimmy. He frequented the town and became its namesake. From Dunne Ranch there ran a road (now San Felipe) into Hollister. It was crossed by the Wells Fargo stage line, which ran from Gilroy to Tres Pinos. In addition to the bar, there was also a dance hall, a livery stable, and house of ill repute. These attractions were reputedly the source of many hours of merriment for Jimmy Dunne for Jimmy Dunne and the cowboys that worked his ranch. Based partly on Dunne’s exploits, and partly on the fact that he owned all the surrounding land, the crossing became known as Dunneville Corners.         The grocery store was built in 1910 and has remained in continual operation. Bill & Gloria Regentz purchased the store in 1972. In 1976 the present structures has recently been remodeled to included the charming dining room and our beautiful outdoor patios         Dunneville has grown from a grocery store to a Café and Market. The presents structure has recently has remolded to include the charming dining room and beautiful outdoors patios.
It has been our pleasure to serve the many people who have “Discovered Dunneville.”  We hope you enjoy your dining experience here. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make it more pleasurable. Until you return, Bill and Gloria Regentz
